Kenyan athlete Sheila Chelangat provisionally suspended after testing positive for EPO, highlighting ongoing doping concerns in Kenyan athletics.

Kenyan long-distance runner Sheila Chelangat has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after testing positive for erythropoietin (EPO).

A banned performance-enhancing substance.

The 27-year-old, a two-time national cross country champion, returned to competition earlier this year after a hiatus due to injuries and loss of form.

She secured second-place finishes at both the Hong Kong Half Marathon in January and the Istanbul Half Marathon in April.

Chelangat’s suspension adds to a growing list of Kenyan athletes facing doping allegations.

Recently, former world half marathon record holder Kibiwott Kandie was also provisionally suspended.

The reason being evading or failing to submit to an anti-doping test.

These incidents underscore the ongoing challenges Kenya faces in combating doping within its athletics community.

The AIU’s committed to upholding integrity in athletics, as the organization intensifies efforts to detect and deter doping violations globally.
