“How do you lead with hate?” That is what Diego Luna directed at Donald Trump when he had a heated monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
As a guest-host of the show, the Andor actor took an opportunity to criticize the Trump administration policies regarding immigration. Luna celebrated the immigrant communities, their sacrifices, particularly the ones that assist in combating the raging wildfires in California.
He was talking about undocumented firefighters fighting the flames in Los Angeles as they risk their lives to save others. He emphasized that immigrants are usually the backbone of the nation, they perform crucial work in construction, healthcare and education.
Luna, an immigrant who came to the U.S. in Mexico at 20, also presented his personal immigrant story. He wrote about being thankful to be in the country, as well as being heart-broken by the cruelty that many migrants have to endure.
He said, there is so much about lies about immigrants. “We have to respond to hate with stories and that is our stories.”
His emotional statements were made as the U.S. immigration tensions are rising, and more deportation threats and family separations attract a negative reaction.
Viewers hailed Luna on the internet as being courageous and understanding.
Diego Luna kept the audience in remembrance that immigrants are not a menace; they are the people who are saving lives and keeping the country together.
