ISOC Ghana has also partnered with LINX to increase internet infrastructure in West Africa.

In early 2025, the London Internet Exchange (LINX) will open LINX Accra, a multi-site Internet Exchange Point (IXP).

LINX Accra is hosted in two large data centres Onix and PAIX and connects networks together using a single cross-connect. This arrangement encourages redundancy, localises traffic within Ghana, minimises latency and minimises data transit costs

Nurani Nimpuno, LINX Head of Global Engagement, termed Accra as the gateway to Africa. Ghana has six undersea cable landings that make it a prime hub of internet traffic in the region.

The project is directly sponsored by Onix Data Centre, which is the sole Tier-IV certified data centre in Ghana.

It has an excellent infrastructure that provides security, resilience, and scalability of high-performance peering services.

The country director of PAIX Ghana reiterated that the entry of LINX will cut down on the use of expensive international transit networks.

An entry of a global IX provider will likely increase peering choices of local ISPs, enterprises, and content networks.

LINX Accra means that Ghana can control its digital sovereignty, enhance network performance, and attract foreign digital services by keeping traffic local and providing a neutral peering hub.

Partnership with ISOC Ghana and local partners proves that there is a common vision of a tech-driven future in West Africa.

With this internet milestone just around the corner, the connectivity situation in Ghana is at the verge of changing. Look forward to increased speeds, improved user experience, and improved digital economy in the region.
