Grammy‑nominated Afrobeats superstar Davido revealed a humbling chapter from his early days in Atlanta, where he served as a makeshift errand boy for music legends Don Jazzy and D’Banj during their visits between 2007 and 2009.
The younger star shared a now‑viral anecdote: he would freestyle for the duo and drive his father’s Rolls‑Royce to pick up McDonald’s on their behalf
Reflecting on this period, Davido said:
“In Atlanta, 2007 or 2008 or 2009… In my father’s house, I was freestyling for Don Jazzy and D’Banj. He sent me to go and buy McDonald’s with my papa car , Rolls Royce.”
This experience occurred at the same time he was introduced to the glamorous side of music, watching Don Jazzy and D’Banj spend over $20,000 at a club, which convinced him that African artists could reach global heights through music alone.
It led him to drop out of school and return to Nigeria to chase his dream full-time
Davido’s story underscores how early exposure, mentorship, and bold ambition shaped his meteoric rise. From chauffeuring to center stage, his journey highlights the humble roots and fierce drive behind his success.
