The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has asserted that the naira is one of the strongest currencies in the world, especially in terms of its built-in security features.
The bank made the statement during its flagship CBN Fair held in Lagos, an outreach initiative designed to foster public trust in the naira and accelerate financial inclusion.
During the event, Paul Onuoha, head of the CBN’s Currency Operations Department, led an interactive session showcasing how Nigerians can identify counterfeit notes by recognizing the naira’s embedded security features.
CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi-Ali, reinforced the message, urging Nigerians to respect the currency, advising against actions like spraying, hawking, mutilating, or defacing naira notes. She cast the naira not just as currency, but a symbol of national pride.
