Online conversations have been buzzing after Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide and social commentator, called out Nigerian airlines.
In a viral video, Omokri showcased his luxury first-class experience abroad, using it as a sharp contrast to what Nigerian passengers face.
Omokri, who served as a media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and is now a best-selling author and activist, said Nigerian travelers deserve better.
He pointed to premium features on his flight; gourmet meals, personalized cabin service, and unmatched comfort, as the gold standard.
He then directly mentioned Air Peace and Ibom Air, urging them to raise their service levels. His comments struck harder because Ibom Air is still reeling from a mid-air scandal where a crew member assaulted a passenger, fueling criticism of its service culture.
Omokri’s remarks quickly drew mixed reactions. Supporters agreed with his call for higher standards, stressing that soaring ticket costs should match first-class treatment. Others defended Nigerian airlines, citing high fuel prices and poor infrastructure as barriers.
Still, many believe Omokri’s influential voice could pressure carriers into reform. For Ibom Air, already under scrutiny, this challenge may be another push to rebuild trust.
