Abuja-Kaduna road test is underway as Reno Omokri, ex-presidential aide, and Nollywood star Wale Ojo announce plans to travel the infamous highway without any security escorts.

Omokri, who served as a spokesperson for former President Goodluck Jonathan, said the move is meant to challenge the narrative that the route remains extremely unsafe.

He extended an open invitation to members of the press and the public to join them, stressing that government measures have significantly reduced risks on the corridor.

“We are traveling the Abuja-Kaduna road without security,” Omokri declared. “The government has taken real steps to make it safe again.”

The Abuja-Kaduna expressway has long been a symbol of Nigeria’s security crisis. It became notorious for kidnappings, robberies, and deadly ambushes, with hundreds of commuters abducted over the years.

In March 2022, a deadly attack on a Kaduna-bound train left eight people dead and over 60 kidnapped, deepening fears about the entire corridor linking the capital to the north.

Authorities have since increased military patrols, installed checkpoints, and launched operations to clear bandits from surrounding forests.

Officials claim these measures are restoring safety, but many Nigerians remain skeptical, pointing to recurring reports of sporadic attacks.

Actor Wale Ojo, celebrated for his roles in Phone Swap and Netflix’s Blood Sisters, is joining Omokri on the trip, lending star power to what they describe as a “public demonstration of renewed safety.”

The road test, however, has netizens debating on whether Nigeria’s promises of safer highways can finally be trusted.
