The man allegedly confessed it was his first time joining the gang. The incident was shared online with a plea for an end to jungle justice.

A young man identified as Ebuka Okonkwo, who reportedly got married just three months ago, was among a group of suspected thieves who were caught and subjected to jungle justice in Oraukwu town, Anambra State.

The incident, narrated by a social media user named Lord Zeus 101, occurred when the gang allegedly attempted to steal bags of rice from a shop late at night.

According to Lord Zeus, the thieves were confronted by the vigilante group.

It was alleged that the vigilantes opened fire, resulting in three suspects being gunned down while three others fled. The villagers later reportedly set the suspects ablaze.

Ebuka Okonkwo, who was among those caught, allegedly confessed before his death that it was his first time joining the gang for such an operation in the area.

The post detailing the unfortunate incident questioned whether the newlywed wife was aware of her husband’s criminal activities.

Lord Zeus used the tragic event to appeal to the public to stop the practice of jungle justice, while lamenting the “sad and disgraceful way” the young man lost his life.
