Sunday Karimi has urged urgent action for the rescue of worshippers kidnapped during an attack on a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West, Kogi State.

Gunmen reportedly invaded the church during Sunday service and abducted the pastor, his wife, and several worshippers.

Karimi issued a statement on Monday condemning the incident and asking Nigerians to pray for the victims’ safe return.

He described the operation as a plot by criminals “masquerading as bandits” to create fear and derail President Bola Tinubu’s security agenda.

He noted that President Tinubu had already directed security agencies to act swiftly to ensure the release of the abducted church members.

Karimi appealed to families of the abducted victims to remain calm as efforts continue.

He sympathized with them and assured that authorities remain committed to securing the safe return of the worshippers.

He urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious movements that could support ongoing efforts to curb kidnappings and other crimes.

“Kogi west has always been a peaceful constituency where people go about their businesses without fear of insecurity, and that glory will be restored,” he said.

The Kogi government has also advised that worship centres in “crime-prone areas” should reconsider opening until the security situation improves.

“Worship Centres in the outskirts should also reconsider worshipping in crime-prone areas for now until the situation gets better,” Kingsley Fanwo, the commissioner for information, said.
