Togo is actively working on terms with Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) to deliver rock phosphate as a part of a multi-year arrangement to India.

The three-year agreement will have Togo’s Société Nouvelle des Phosphates du Togo (SNPT) export annually 250,000 metric tons of phosphate to India.

This upcoming agreement between Togo and the Indian company FACT would become the first permanent fertilizer trade agreement between these two parties.

The relationship between Togo and India regarding phosphate trading consists of spot deals rather than sustained long-term purchase agreements. The growing need for fertilizers in India has caused the country to look for reliable and steady supply systems.

The number of phosphate imports India purchased from Togo increased by 30% during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024 amounting to 1.1 million tons.

This proposed agreement will establish Togo as a vital phosphate supplier to India alongside maintaining a consistent flow of revenue for Togo’s economy.

The cooperation between SNPT and FACT gained momentum when both companies endorsed a non-binding memorandum of understanding in February 2025. The terms of the agreement have reached most points of agreement but pricing needs final settlement.

The contract provides provisions that enable both parties to conduct quarterly price adjustments when market conditions change. Enhanced market flexibility in Togo’s phosphate operations through price reviews would strengthen its global market competitiveness.

A permanent phosphate supply agreement between Togo and India would mark an important achievement for the Togolese mining industry.

The Togolese phosphate resources are extensive and the nation is actively seeking expansion into worldwide fertilizer business operations. A durable commercial relationship between Togo and India will increase mineral exports while creating fresh investment prospects in its mining operations.

Enhanced mining output together with increased export volumes would empower Togo’s economic development while making the nation a main player in worldwide phosphate business.

Both Togo and India will derive advantages from their ongoing negotiations for this collaboration. Togo achieves a secure market destination for its phosphate exports at the same time India establishes dependable access to vital agricultural production materials.
