Only about 27% of Nigerians trust the President, 19% trust the National Assembly, 15% trust the Police, Afrobarometer 2022. Average trust in government is around 22%.
Compare: Ghana; about 33% trust in key state institutions in 2024 (down from 75% in 2005), Botswana, 24% trust President in 2022, but 61% trust the army. Rwanda is different, over 70% trust due to strong service delivery.
Why low trust for Nigeria? Because we have seen too much, promise and fail, budget disappearing, leaders that are not accessible. You fit spend whole day trying to see your representative, even with appointment. Talk less of common man.
But leadership is not only Aso Rock. Leadership starts from your compound chairman, your market women leader, your youth president, your school principal. If we fix leadership everywhere, Naija go fix.
Better Nigeria is not about one saviour, it is about a system that allows capable and good people to lead.
What Better Nigeria Looks Like:
- Transparency by Default: Every budget, every contract — publish online for everybody to see. Monthly town hall for every LGA Chairman, Governor, Minister. Rwanda did 72% trust because services work and corruption is punished. If Rwanda can achieve it, we can do 80%.
- Accountability is Real: Independent audit, whistleblower protection, quick punishment for infringement. No more long court cases spanning 10+ years. If you steal public money, you lose the opportunity to lead again at any level. In Botswana, rule of law is strong — that is why it is Africa’s most consistent democracy since 1966.
- Service, Not Sir: Leaders are servants. Open-door policy — leaders’ phone numbers must work and be accessible, leaders’ offices should be where a common person can enter. Measure leaders by schools built, hospitals working, not convoy size.
Leadership with integrity changes everything, security, economy, power, everything we discussed Day 1-12 works ONLY if leadership works.
Your Action Today: Attend one community meeting this week, estate, church, mosque, market association. Ask one question: “How much money was spent and on what?” Post with #LeadershipWithIntegrity.
Be the leader you want to see.
