Egypt selected to host inaugural IFAF African Flag Football Championships, marking a significant milestone in the sport’s expansion across the continent.


Egypt selected to host inaugural IFAF African Flag Football Championships, positioning the nation at the forefront of the sport’s growth in Africa.

The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) selected Cairo to become the first host city of AFRICA FLAG 2025 which will take place in June 20–21, 2025.

This historic contest will welcome professional male and female national teams from various African regions to participate in competitive development activities.

The championships operate as qualification criteria which lead teams to compete in the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships as part of the planned 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

IFAF President Pierre Trochet declared the first-ever IFAF Continental Championships in Africa as a major step forward for global sport development.

The NFL together with EFAF and National Football League will host youth development programs as part of this event.

U12 teams representing Egypt together with Ghana and Kenya and Nigeria will take part in the multi-day NFL Flag Continental Championship with their championship finale scheduled for June 23.

Young athletes benefit from NFL-supported talent scouting initiatives that lead them toward NFL Academy Europe-Africa programs.

The balanced strategy focuses on building fundamental community involvement while finding new athletic talent throughout the entire African region.

The decision to organize the flag football tournament in Egypt demonstrates both the rising influence of the country in global sports and the growing popularity of flag football throughout Africa.

The upcoming sporting events will activate both fresh athletes and fans to expand football worldwide.
