Salzgitter delivers pipes to Angola for water supply, marking a significant contribution to the Quilonga Grande project in Luanda.

German steel conglomerate Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH (SMID) along with Mannesmann Grossrohr GmbH (MGR) collaborate with CNT Bau from Munich to supply spiral-welded large-diameter pipes.

Luanda with 10 million residents currently operates with 1.2 million cubic meters of unmet daily water requirements while distributing water through tank trucks because the infrastructure remains outdated.

Water supply restructuring efforts through the Quilonga Grande project will establish a sustainable water management system for the future.

Production of pipes from 508 mm to 1,626 mm diameter length will run through 105 kilometers of project area.

These pipes need an internal thick-layer epoxy coating together with external three-layer polyethylene coating to fulfill the requirements for drinking water standards.

The production of these pipes under manufacturing supervision will occur at Salzgitter and Hamm facilities through Mannesmann Grossrohr GmbH and Mannesmann Line Pipe GmbH.

The company Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH will oversee logistics functions which encompass coordination, financing and harbor delivery to Luanda.

Through this project Mannesmann Grossrohr will maintain its capacity utilization through mid-2026 and will also establish job positions in Angola.

CEO Gunnar Groebler from Salzgitter AG declared the project to be a landmark venture which requires joint handling by Salzgitter Group member organizations.

The project represents a historic achievement which brings improved infrastructure with better life quality opportunities to people living in Angola.

Water supply to the public depends heavily on steel pipes which provide this vital resource to the population.

The cooperative initiative demonstrates how worldwide joint ventures enable strategic solutions to vital infrastructure needs.

It will also lead to improved living standards for people in Angola.
