UK and New Zealand collaborate to supply advanced drones to Ukraine, enhancing Kyiv’s defense capabilities with cutting-edge unmanned systems from Syos Aerospace.

UK and New Zealand collaborate to supply advanced drones to Ukraine, as part of a joint initiative to strengthen Kyiv’s defense against ongoing Russian aggression.

A £30 million ($39.9 million) production contract has been granted by the UK Ministry of Defence to Syos Aerospace in New Zealand for building unmanned systems that will be delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The drones assembled at Fareham Hampshire by Syos Aerospace will require 45 new employment positions and the cooperation of nine more subcontractors based in the UK.

The company provides military products consisting of the SA200 helicopter drone and SA5 VTOL intelligence surveillance aircraft alongside SG400 6×6 ground vehicle and SM300 surface vessel.

The collaborative work supports UK national aims through “Plan for Change” which seeks stability in the economy and national security by developing homegrown technologies.

Through its membership in the 31-country “Coalition of the Willing” the initiative provides support to Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

The New Zealand Defence Force conducted training for more than 54,000 Ukrainian soldiers as part of Operation Interflex under UK leadership since 2022.

NZ intends to send Anzac-class frigate HMNZS Te Kaha into the Indian Ocean to join the UK Carrier Strike Group thus showing their joint dedication to defend allied security across multiple regions.
