U.S. tech stocks rally as Microsoft and Meta report strong Q1 earnings, highlighting AI investments despite ongoing trade tensions.

U.S. tech stocks experienced a significant rally on May 1, 2025, following robust first-quarter earnings reports from Microsoft and Meta Platforms.

Microsoft’s shares climbed 8.7%, while Meta’s increased by 4.5%, leading gains across the tech sector .

Microsoft reported a 13% year-over-year revenue increase, driven by strong performance in its cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) divisions.

The company’s Azure cloud services contributed significantly to this growth, with AI integrations enhancing service offerings.

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, also exceeded analysts’ expectations, posting a 35% increase in net income to $16.64 billion and a 16% rise in revenue to $42.31 billion.

The company’s investments in AI technologies have bolstered its advertising revenue, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighting the launch of a standalone Meta AI app and ongoing development of augmented reality (AR) glasses.

The positive earnings reports from these tech giants have instilled confidence among investors, suggesting that AI-driven growth may offset some of the economic uncertainties stemming from ongoing trade tensions.

Other AI-focused companies, such as Nvidia and AMD, also saw stock gains, reflecting broader optimism in the sector.

However, not all tech companies fared equally; Qualcomm’s shares fell 8.1% after issuing a weaker-than-expected revenue forecast, indicating that challenges remain in the industry.

Despite these mixed results, the overall sentiment in the tech sector remains positive, buoyed by the strong performances of Microsoft and Meta.
