A video showing Naval Officer Lt. Ahmed Yerima being stopped by police officers in Abuja for driving with a covered number plate has surfaced online, sparking discussions on social media.

The incident reportedly occurred on 16 November 2025 at around 6:15 p.m. at the NNPC Junction along the Kubwa Expressway.

Officers on patrol stopped an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with fully tinted windows and a concealed number plate.

In the video, a police officer is seen asking Lt. Yerima to identify himself. The officer was heard saying:

“He came with a car with the plate number covered.

We stopped him. He claimed he is an officer but could not identify himself.

Lt. Yerima was also seen attempting to show his identification card to the policemen, but the police officers claimed they could not see the ID clearly.

The video has attracted waves of reactions online, with users sharing their opinions on the incident.

The video surfaced amid allegations that Lt. Yerima had been assaulted or targeted.

The FCT Police Command dismissed these claims as false and grossly misleading, stating that the stop-and-search was conducted professionally and in line with standard operational procedures.

Netizens Reactions…

@Akande1046875 reacted:

“How many officers in Nigeria do use plate number even nscdc officer no Deh use plate number”@RedRose1 said: “Something is fishy.

The next tussle is going to be b/w the Nig Military and the Police.

The hand writing is gradually on the wall.

Police Officers have not forgotten the way AM Yerima belittled one of them last time. Lol May that not happen pls.”

@aroman2dollers stated: “Watch him bringing out his identity card. Why are the police officer yelling?

Trying to justify to whoever that sent them that they are doing a good job.

Does what happened there look like a troubled situation? No! But to score a point negatively.”

@Gerryubz said: “Yerima is too gentle. He stopped. He wound downHe identified himself as Army officer

He showed his ID twice. Some Army officers won’t even do half of this.

Covering his plate is for security reasons especially after the Wike incidence.”@RuhamahDa said:

“The other one see ID card don begin Dey change mouth: You know I didn’t even see am.”
