Adel Amrouche, an Algerian coach, obtained CAS approval to challenge his eight-match Confederation of African Football (CAF) suspension which led to his $3,336.45 compensation award from CAF. The Court of Arbitration for Sport provided both the cancellation of the CAF suspension and $3,336.45 in compensation to Amrouche.
The suspension against Amrouche emerged from his comments during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire when he served as Tanzania national team coach.
The coach Amrouche’),(‘publicly criticized the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) after his team lost 3-0 to Morocco in a match. According to Amrouche Morocco holds complete control over African football right now. The referees get selected by them and we remain passively watching the matches.
Following his statements CAF imposed an eight-game ban on Amrouche which pushed the Tanzanian Football Federation to terminate his contract. The harsh punishment for Amrouche received criticism across football circles because many perceived it to be unjust.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport reviewed the case one year after its initiation to grant complete clearance to Amrouche by facilitating financial reparations from CAF.
The judgment not only cleans Amrouche’s professional record but it also provides him with personal satisfaction and allows him to resume coaching without carrying the weight of the previous punishment.
