Only about 56% of Nigerians have broadband internet. South Africa is around 75%, Kenya about 48%, Ghana about 58%. Half of Nigeria is still offline — no internet, no opportunity.

And data is still expensive. For many families, 1GB costs a day’s wage. How can you do online business when data finishes before business starts?

Yet look what we have done WITH small internet: Paystack, Flutterwave, Andela — all built by Nigerians with a laptop and small data. Imagine what we could do if everyone was connected.

What Better Nigeria Looks Like:

  1. Fiber to Every LGA: Lay fiber optic cable to all 774 LGAs — like roads, but for internet. Cheap, fast internet in every local government secretariat, school, and market. Rwanda did it. Kenya’s National Optic Fibre Backbone did it. Nigeria is already starting with its 90,000km fiber project backed by the World Bank to grow from 35,000km to 125,000km.
  2. Data Must Be Cheap: Cut Right-of-Way charges. One national price. Thirteen states have already waived RoW charges, 16 adopted the N9,000 per linear metre NEC rate. If we move from 56% to 80% penetration, World Bank research shows GDP could grow by 1.35% for every 10% increase in broadband quality — up to $15-20 billion yearly for Nigeria.
  3. Government Inside Your Pocket: No more queues for passport, CAC, NIN, driver’s license. One app — e-Government — birth certificate to business registration to tax payment. Estonia, a country of 1.3 million people, does 99% of government services online, 24/7. If Estonia can do it, Naija can do it better.

Technology is not for big men only. It is also for market women that want to sell on Instagram, students who want to learn coding and farmers that want to check market prices.

Your Action Today: Teach one person near you how to use one useful app — bank app, learning app, market app, NIN app. Post it with #DigitalNigeria.

No data, no development. No internet, no future.
