A viral video from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has stirred emotions online after a lecturer was seen destroying an architecture student’s project, allegedly claiming the student couldn’t have produced such outstanding work.
In the clip, the lecturer is seen furiously tearing down the student’s model in front of the entire class while the visibly helpless student stands by, unable to intervene.
The video was reportedly shared by the student, who captioned it:
“Your lecturer didn’t believe you did your project. This is the third time this semester.”
The incident has since sparked a wave of anger on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the lecturer’s actions as intimidating and unprofessional.
Stating that such behavior discourages creativity and hard work among students.
“You see why many talented students lose interest? The moment you try to do something extraordinary, someone in authority feels intimidated. Instead of saying “well done” they try to bring you down to their level,” an X user Iphie wrote.
Another person said,
“There are polite ways to reject a student’s project as a lecturer, without destroying it.
This is why whites would always lead us in everything. Just because students didn’t do exactly as expected doesn’t mean it’s bad.
There are things we use, made by mistake, that benefit us humans.
We need to change the way our education is in Nigeria.”Obiara Otu said, “
What happened here is not leadership. It’s failure. This moment should have been an opportunity to coach, teach, encourage, and uplift.
Instead, a student’s spirit was crushed by arrogance disguised as authority.
A true educator doesn’t destroy brilliance; they nurture it.
When a student falls short, you guide them.
When they exceed expectations, you celebrate them.
No one masters greatness on the first try. We must give people the grace to grow, not humiliation.
Education is meant to grow brilliance, not break it.”X users reacted to the Post
