Ghanaian fetish priest, Agya Koo, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for incest and coercing his daughter into multiple abortions, following his arrest during a live television program.

The Bekwai Circuit Court in Ghana’s Ashanti Region has sentenced a fetish priest, Agya Koo, to 10 years in prison for committing incest and compelling his daughter to undergo three abortions.

The case came to light during a live broadcast of the television program “Aunti Naa,” where Agya Koo confessed to the sexual abuse.

Following his admission, he was arrested on May 23, 2025.

During court proceedings, Agya Koo pleaded for leniency, describing his actions as a “mistake.” However, the presiding judge emphasized the severity of the offense and its detrimental impact on the victim, leading to the 10-year sentence.

This case underscores ongoing concerns about sexual abuse within certain traditional religious practices in Ghana.

Scholarly research indicates that clergy-perpetrated sexual abuse (CPSA) remains a significant issue in the country, with many victims being young females.
