On August 10, 2025, Ibom Air flight Q9 303 from Uyo to Lagos became the scene of a rolling crisis.
Passenger Comfort Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone before takeoff, sparking a confrontation with a fellow traveler who eventually turned it off for her.
The tension didn’t end there. Upon landing, Emmanson allegedly stomped on the purser, yanked off her wig, smashed her glasses, hurled a shoe at crew members, and tried to grab a fire extinguisher, an action that could have caused serious safety risks.
Security eventually restrained her, but the chaos spilled into the airport bus, where the scuffle continued.
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) called it “one of the most severe cases of unruly passenger behaviour” this year, issuing an indefinite lifetime ban on Emmanson across all member airlines.
Ibom Air reported her to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), leading to her arraignment and remand at Kirikiri Correctional Centre on assault charges.
Adding fuel to the public debate, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo condemned the leak of a viral indecent clip showing Emmanson’s partial nudity.
Comfort emmanson also posted a video to tell her side of the story. However, it seems authorities in charge are choosing to look away.
While supporting video evidence in investigations, he called the public release degrading and vowed sanctions for those responsible
The Preceding Case- Kwam 1 Saga
Only days before, Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) made headlines for allegedly halting a ValueJet takeoff in Abuja.
Reports say he refused to surrender a flask suspected of containing alcohol, poured its contents on crew and security staff, and disrupted the aircraft’s taxiing.
NCAA described the act as behaviour that “amounts to terrorism in most climes” and temporarily placed him on a no-fly list pending investigation
KWAM 1 later apologised, claiming the flask contained water for health reasons.
With the airline opting not to press charges, NCAA limited its actions to administrative sanctions, referring the matter to the Attorney General and Inspector-General of Police.

Conclusion
Safety Is non-negotiable. Aviation safety rules must apply to all, celebrity or not. Disparities in enforcement erode public trust. Dignity must be protected and evidence gathering must respect privacy.
