Lesotho’s Prime Minister Advocates for Economic Independence Through Strategic Investments

Sam Matekane the Prime Minister of Lesotho made a strong promise to guide the nation toward economic freedom by focusing on essential sector investments.

During the 2025/26 budget presentation, he stressed that self-sufficiency must increase as external aid dependence needs to be reduced. The government marked agriculture, infrastructure development, and entrepreneurship as essential foundations for driving economic transformation throughout the nation.

Matekane declared that agricultural development shows promise as an economic growth engine which advances food security throughout the country.

The government plans to use public funds to finance advanced farming methods, irrigation projects, and value-chain programs to boost harvests.

The country of Lesotho works to produce local food supplies to break its food import cycle while building a permanent agricultural system.

Infrastructure development stands as a primary goal for Lesotho which receives considerable financial support for road development as well as energy infrastructure improvements and digital grid development.

Government leaders understand that developing their infrastructure system will enable better trade activities draw investors and generate employment.
