British-Nigerian Designer, Liz Sanya Aims for World Record with Colossal Pink Sandal in Lagos

British-Nigerian shoe designer, Liz Sanya, has a large clog in Lagos that combines cultural poise, and creative ambition for a grand, pink dump to cement Sanya, in the GWR books as the world’s largest sandal.

Standing at 8.147 metres (26 feet 8.8 inches) long and 3.156 metres (10ft 4.2 inches) long, and built by Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos, in 72 hours of non-stop work, the breathtaking creation was hailed as the longest pizza in the world. The project, which started on January 2, 2025, was completed on January 4 and attracted significant attention from both local and international observers.

This was the record achieved by a group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo; their sandal measured 7.45 metres (24 feet 5.31 inches) in length and 3.09 metres (10 feet 1.65 inches) in width.

The attempt by Sanya, if verified, would beat these dimensions by quite a long chalk and very probably set a new record in this rather special category.

The attempt attracted high-profile individuals from Nigeria’s entertainment industry, and several celebrities present to grace the occasion included musicians Pheelz and Mayorkun, and cultural influencers Korty EO and P.Prime.

In evidence of the feat as one that was highly culturally significant, these personalities helped convert what was clearly a technical challenge into one celebrating Nigerian creativity and skill.

“I will never be able to put into words what any of this means to me. None of this has been possible without the support and compassion of the people who believe in my vision,”

Sanya said while talking about the momentous undertaking. Her choice of Nigeria for the record attempt carries deep personal significance, as she explained,

“Ibadan is where I was born, Lagos is where I was inspired, it was only right to come back home and prove it. 1 world record to beat, within 72hrs.”

It means more than a bid for the world record-the attempt is symbolic for the connection of global achievement to local heritage, thereby situating Nigeria in the growing circle of influence within the international creative sphere.

As verification kicks off, Sanya’s gigantic pink clog speaks to the intersection of personal ambitions, cultural pride, and innovative creativity that forms the identity of modern African design.
