The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) officially handed over 17 gold bars, valued at approximately $1.7 million to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) during a brief ceremony at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra
The bars were seized by NACOC officers from its Upper East Regional Command at the Paga border post, where two Burkinabè nationals were caught attempting to smuggle the gold out of the country.
Both individuals have been formally charged with offences related to unauthorized gold transport and dealing.
Speaking at the event, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak reiterated the government’s steadfast backing for GoldBod and its mandate to oversee Ghana’s gold resources responsibly.

GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi thanked NACOC for its effective enforcement and seized-handling operation.
He also emphasized the need for continued cooperation among security agencies to safeguard Ghana’s mineral assets from illicit trade.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials including the Ministry’s Chief Director, Doreen Annan, and NACOC’s Director-General, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, among others.
