A coalition of aviation unions in Nigeria has announced an indefinite strike commencing Monday, August 11, 2025, over the delayed implementation of a new salary structure for Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) staff.
The strike directive, signed off on August 7 by the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), signals a potential shutdown of national air operations.

The warning period ended on Thursday, August 7, after an eight-month-long wait for action. The unions described the government’s delay in enacting the agreed pay reforms as “unacceptable,” and have instructed all NAMA personnel to cease services from 5:00 a.m. on Monday, effectively grounding flying operations.
Adding to the urgency, Radarr Africa notes that operations across various airports may come to a complete halt as early as Monday morning if no resolution materializes.
Meanwhile, Nigerian Eye advises the public to closely monitor updates from NAMA and airline operators.
