Bandit Kill Village Head in Plateau State, the village head of Shuwaka in Garga District, Kanam Local Government Area, Mallam Hudu Barau, has been brutally killed by bandits barely a week after his abduction, SaharaReporters has learnt.
In a statement on Monday signed by the Chairman of The Kanam Development Association (KADA), Shehu Kanam, and Secretary, Barrister Garba Aliyu, confirmed that Barau, who was seized six days ago, was later found dead in Wanka Forest.
KADA described the killing as yet another grim reminder of the worsening insecurity ravaging communities in Kanam and other parts of Plateau State.
“The people of Garga and nearby villages live in fear every day. Our political leaders must act now to secure their people,” the statement read.
The association slammed both state and federal authorities for turning a deaf ear to the repeated cries of residents who are constantly subjected to abductions and killings by marauding gunmen.
KADA called on the Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to immediately declare a state of emergency in Garga and deploy adequate security forces to halt further bloodshed.
They also accused elected representatives from the area of neglecting their people in the face of the persistent attacks.
The silence of leaders in the face of these atrocities will no longer be tolerated. The government must act now to restore peace and stability to our community.
We stand with the family of the late Sarkin Shuwaka and will keep fighting for justice and safety for our people, KADA warned.
Barau’s killing comes amid rising banditry in Plateau and other northern states, where rural dwellers have continued to suffer heavy casualties despite repeated government assurances to end insecurity.
