Former Big Brother Naija star Anita “Tacha” Akide has opened up about her growing interest in politics, revealing plans to run for office once she is sufficiently prepared.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds, the 29-year-old influencer said she believes political participation goes beyond voting and campaigning. She described politics as a daily reality that affects every aspect of citizens’ lives.
“When it’s time, I would run,” Tacha said, “but I feel like it has to be when I’m 70% ready.”
She emphasized that she doesn’t want to join politics just for popularity or pressure, noting that she wants to be mentally and structurally prepared before stepping into a political role.
Tacha, who hails from Rivers State, expressed frustration over the stagnation in her state’s development compared to places like Lagos and Abuja. She lamented the lack of progress despite the state’s abundant resources.
“It hurts. I see what other states look like, and I see what my state looks like,” she said.
In the same conversation, she referenced the Not Too Young To Run movement, an advocacy campaign aimed at reducing the age barrier for political participation in Nigeria. Tacha urged her peers to go beyond activism and social media commentary by actively joining governance processes.
“We are the ones that complain the most… but we don’t want to run for office,” she added.
When asked about her personal life, Tacha revealed she is currently single but open to love and family life — just not under pressure.
“Of course, I want a family,” she said. “But I feel like, if you’re not mentally and emotionally ready, don’t do it.”
Tacha’s declaration adds her to a growing list of Nigerian public figures transitioning into politics, a trend that has gained momentum in recent years.
