Former presidential aide Lauretta Onochie has dismissed a misleading social media claim suggesting President Bola Tinubu was Nigeria’s leader in 2015, calling it “a lie with an expiry date.”

The ex-Digital Media Assistant to President Buhari reacted after a viral post erroneously stated Tinubu governed Nigeria before Buhari.

Onochie clarified: “In 2015, Nigerians voted out PDP’s Goodluck Jonathan and elected Muhammadu Buhari. Records are clear.”

Onochie, known for blunt fact-checks, urged citizens to verify claims before sharing.

“Don’t let politicians manipulate you with false timelines,” she tweeted alongside INEC’s 2015 election results.

The National Archives confirms Buhari’s May 29, 2015 inauguration after defeating Jonathan (PDP) with 15.4 million votes. Tinubu, then APC national leader, didn’t assume office until May 2023.
