Hon. Segun Showunmi, convener of The Alternative Movement, led a 40-day fidau prayer on Friday in memory of late President Muhammadu Buhari, held simultaneously in Abeokuta and Katsina.
The event was organized to honor Buhari’s legacy and inspire present-day leaders toward modesty and integrity.

Showunmi emphasized Buhari’s minimalistic lifestyle, reminding leaders that “he lived a minimal life by not accumulating unnecessary wealth while in office.”
He urged public servants to make conscious choices, noting that “feelers are watching,” and morality should guide their actions.
The ceremonies featured religious leaders, including the Chief Imam of Keesi Central Mosque, Sheik Akeem Olorunisola, and guest lecturer Muhammad Robiu Adekolu who praised Buhari for his discipline, fear of God, and sacrifice.
Adekolu highlighted the need for Nigerians, especially leaders, to “impact others, rather than pursue worldly possessions.”
During his remarks, Showunmi also called for greater solidarity between Nigeria’s North and South, particularly among Yoruba and northern communities, a plea tied to Buhari’s early life experiences in both regions.
