Afrobeats singer and businessman Mr Eazi has revealed why he intentionally keeps a distance from listening to too much of Burna Boy’s music, despite admiring him greatly.

During a conversation on the 90s Baby Show, the music star spoke highly of Burna Boy’s creativity and lyrical depth while referencing the hit song Ye.

Reacting to the lyric, “Big man wey no dey wear agbada,” Mr Eazi explained why the line carries a powerful meaning to him.

He said:

“Big man wey no dey wear agbada. Do you know how deep that line is? Because if you are a big man in Lagos, you have to wear agbada.”

The singer went on to explain that the lyric reflects a different level of success, comparing it to wealthy figures like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, who are known for maintaining a simple appearance regardless of their status.

Speaking further, Mr Eazi admitted that he deliberately avoids consuming too much of Burna Boy’s music because he fears it may influence his own sound.

In his words:

“I don’t even like listening to Burna Boy because if I listen to so much, you will hear it in my music.

So, I try to stay away from Burna because I have a low register as well in my voice.”

“I don’t like listening to Burna Boy’s songs —I’ve said it before, I don’t want my music to start sounding like his.”
