The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), under the leadership of Chairman Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd), announced that the agency arrested 66,000 traffickers, including 95 drug barons, and seized over 200 million tramadol pills valued at approximately ₦1 trillion between 2024 and mid‑2025.

Marwa detailed that the seizures formed part of aggressive intelligence-led operations and public sensitization efforts, with over 11,000 drug-related convictions secured and more than 11,000 awareness campaigns held nationwide, including targeted interventions in schools, markets, and transit hubs.

Past NDLEA operations seized 26.25 million mas matched pills and codeine syrup worth ₦16.6 billion in October 2024, and 190,960 pills hidden in modified vehicles in early 2025.

However, experts emphasize that seizures alone are insufficient.

Sustainable solutions require stronger drug regulation, tighter prescription control, and concerted efforts from health, education, and security sectors to curb misuse and protect vulnerable communities.
