Popular music producer, Samklef has taken a swipe at singer Davido, claiming that his entry into the Nigerian music scene introduced rivalry and toxicity into the industry.

Samklef made the remarks while reacting to a post by fellow singer and producer, Pheelz, who lamented how constant comparisons among artists are negatively affecting the music culture.

“Music was meant to be enjoyed, not to be compared.

This comparison game is hurting the sound and culture more than we can ever know,” Pheelz wrote.

Sharing his perspective, Samklef agreed with Pheelz and reflected on what he described as a more peaceful era in the industry.

According to him, when artists like Wizkid and Olamide were emerging, the atmosphere was filled with mutual respect and genuine love for music.

He claimed that things changed with Davido’s arrival, alleging that rivalry and unhealthy competition became more pronounced.

“Music was fun when we started. When Wizkid came, there was no comparison—everything was pure love. Olamide came too, same thing. No pressure, no hatred, just music.

Then one Scorpio boy who moves like Diddy… Davido entered, and since then the industry turned toxic.

Cultist mindset, threats, fake streams, dirty moves everywhere,” Samklef wrote. The comments have since sparked reactions across social media.

While some fans believe Samklef is simply expressing his honest opinion about the industry’s evolution, others argue that competition is inevitable in any creative space.

The debate continues, with many weighing in on whether rivalry has helped push creativity forward or damaged the culture of Nigerian music.
