AAC Party Blasts FCT Minister Wike Over Ban On Phone Use By Workers

The African Action Congress (AAC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, has scolded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his controversial directive banning the staff of the FCT Administration from using mobile phones during office hours.

In a statement signed by Agena Robert Ande, Chairman of the AAC FCT Chapter, and Salako Kayode, the Secretary, the party described Wike’s order as “draconian,” “egregious,” “a gross affront to democracy,” and a “stark manifestation of authoritarianism.”

According to the statement,

“The African Action Congress (AAC) FCT Chapter is appalled by the draconian directive issued by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, imposing a blanket ban on the use of mobile phones by staff of the FCT Administration.”

Ondo Government Dismisses PDP Claim Of ₦531billion Supplementary Budget, Says It’s Revised Version

The Ondo State Government has dismissed claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa submitted a ₦531billion supplementary budget to the State House of Assembly, describing the allegation as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Comrade Allen Sowore, the government described the PDP’s allegation—made by its Director of Media and Public Communications, Mr. Wande T. Ajayi—as “baseless and mischievous.”

According to Allen, what is currently before the State House of Assembly is not a supplementary budget but a revised and restructured version of the ₦698.6 billion 2025 Budget of Recovery, which had already been passed and signed into law.

Libya Repatriates 80 Nigerian Migrants Detained Across Various Facilities

The Libyan Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), in collaboration with the Nigerian Consulate in Tripoli, has successfully repatriated 80 irregular migrants of Nigerian nationality through the Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli.

According to Migrant Rescue Watch, the deportation exercise was carried out after the affected individuals were issued judicial deportation orders by the Libyan Judicial Police.

The migrants had been detained in various holding facilities across Libya before being transferred to the airport under security escort for their flight back to Nigeria.

Migrant Rescue Watch, which monitors migrant rights and welfare in Libya, stated that the repatriation is part of ongoing efforts by Libyan authorities and foreign missions to manage irregular migration and decongest detention centers.

The group noted that the process was conducted in coordination with the Nigerian consular representatives to ensure that the returnees received appropriate documentation and consular support during their departure.

The 80 Nigerians are among hundreds of African migrants who have been detained in Libya for attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe through irregular routes.

Libya remains one of the main transit hubs for migrants from sub-Saharan Africa seeking to reach Europe.

Saraki urges PDP to suspend national convention, calls for caretaker committee

Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has advised the Peoples Democratic Party to suspend its planned national convention slated for November 15-16, 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State, citing legal and political controversies surrounding the exercise.

Saraki made the call in a statement via his official X (Twitter) handle on Wednesday night following a meeting with members of the Board of Trustees Reconciliation Committee of the party led by Ambassador Hassan Adamu, who visited him to seek his views on restoring peace within the PDP.

The former Kwara State governor described the meeting as “meaningful and incisive,” noting that it focused on pressing issues affecting the party’s unity and stability.

Amaechi’s problem not Tinubu but political irrelevance, says Lagos APC

Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed, with well-deserved contempt, the latest political hallucination from former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, who now claims Nigerians should

“mobilise because President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can be defeated in 2027.’’

Spokesman Seye Oladejo in a statement yesterday in Ogba, Lagos said:

‘’Amaechi is free to dream, but he must stop mistaking his nightmares for national reality.

‘’Amaechi is a political orphan – disowned in Rivers, irrelevant nationally, and steadily sinking into total political oblivion.

’In Rivers State today, mentioning Amaechi’s name in political discussions is viewed as a provocative joke.

‘’A man who has lost his structure, lost his followers, and lost his voice has suddenly found the courage to lecture Nigerians on how to ‘mobilise.

Oluwo seeks boundary dispute resolution

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, yesterday raised the alarm of a likely clash between Oyo and Osun states over unresolved boundary matters.

He alleged that there was a plan to cede Osun State land at Iwo axis to Lagelu community in Oyo State, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to set up an independent committee of enquiry to avert the looming communal clash.

Oba Akanbi in a statement through his spokesperson, Alli Ibraheem, said:

“There are indicators of a compromise to cede part of Osun State in Iwo axis to Lagelu in Oyo State, a situation that may trigger another civil unrest in the affected villages.”

He said urgent steps became necessary to avert crisis between the two states, adding:

“There is a clandestine plan to steal the ancestral birth rights of the people of Iwo land.

FG cancels indigenous language policy, declares English the sole medium of instruction in schools

The Federal Government has cancelled the national language policy that made the use of indigenous languages compulsory in Nigerian schools, declaring English as the official medium of instruction across all levels of education.

The policy, approved in 2022 as the National Language Policy, had mandated that pupils from Early Childhood Education to Primary Six be taught in their mother tongue or the language of their immediate community

However, in a major policy reversal, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the cancellation on Wednesday during the 2025 Language in Education International Conference organised by the British Council in Abuja.

According to him, evidence showed that students in regions that adopted the mother-tongue instruction recorded poorer academic performance in national examinations such as WAEC, NECO, and JAMB.

We have seen a mass failure rate in WAEC, NECO, and JAMB in certain geo-political zones of the country, and those are the ones that adopted the mother tongue in an oversubscribed manner,” Alausa said.
