According to a situation report released by the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, an undisclosed number of persons were initially trapped when the structure at 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop, came down around midnight.

Adeseye confirmed that the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station team was immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 12:20 a.m. on Monday.

“It is an ongoing rescue involving an existing two-storey building which has reportedly been marked in distress before collapsing on the occupants,” the statement said.

So far, 15 people — including seven men, four women, and four children — have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries and taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute-Metta and General Hospital, Odan, on Lagos Island.

The police boss said that the command had made massive deployments across the city to forestall any planned demonstrations that could lead to public disorder.

He emphasised that the command would not tolerate any attempt to block major highways or disrupt the peace currently being enjoyed in Lagos.

PDP convention: South West leaders zone secretary to Oyo, auditor to Ogun

TWENTY days to the convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan, the South-West leaders of the party have zoned the positions of national secretary and national auditor to Oyo and Ogun states respectively under the micro-zoning of the three national offices zoned to the area.

The micro-zoning of the offices was the main agenda of a zoom meeting Governor Seyi Makinde held with some members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party over the choice of candidates for national offices, the Nigerian Tribune learnt, at the weekend.

The post of deputy national organising secretary was micro-zoned to Ekiti and Ondo states.

Conduct free, fair election, stakeholders will applaud you, YPP tells INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been urged to adhere strictly to electoral laws and ensure a free, fair, and credible governorship election on November 8.

This call was made by the Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma.

“Let me begin by emphasising that the YPP is fully committed to a peaceful, free, and fair election process in Anambra State on November 8, as a progressive political party,” Chukwuma stated.

In a statement released by the Director of Media, Sir Paul Chukwuma Campaign Council, Dr Ebuka Onyekwelu, the party said that Anambra State deserves better than what it is currently experiencing.

According to the YPP, “So far, we have conducted our political campaigns with utmost civility and have maintained a clear focus on governance issues.

We did not join this race to be distracted by trivial or sensational topics that do not affect the daily lives of our people in Anambra State.

Chaos erupts at Davido’s concert as fans scale gates to force entry

A video circulating on TikTok has captured the chaotic moment a crowd of excited fans tried to force their way into Davido’s concert venue without tickets.

In the viral clip, several individuals can be seen climbing metal barriers and scaling the entrance gate, determined to catch a glimpse of the Afrobeats superstar’s live performance.

The video, shared on TikTok, shows a massive crowd cheering and pushing as others risked injury to climb into the arena.

The incident reportedly took place at one of Davido’s major shows in Nigeria, where thousands gathered to see the music icon perform. Many online users described the scene as “unbelievable” and “typical of Nigerian concert energy,” while others blamed poor crowd control and lack of proper entry management.

Overcrowding however, has been a recurring issue at large concerts across the country, especially during performances by top-tier artists like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.

Nnamdi Kanu’s release will restore peace in South-East – Ned Nwoko

The lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Ned Nwoko has claimed that peace will return to the South-East part of Nigeria, if the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, is released.

According to Nwoko, Kanu’s continued incarceration has contributed to the lingering crisis in the region.

In an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, he emphasised that addressing the grievances of the South-East requires both equity and justice.

According to him, two key steps—creating an additional state for the region and releasing Kanu—would significantly ease tensions and restore calm.

“Nnamdi Kanu has been in custody for some time now. I believe that he has been held unjustly.

“If you want to get him tried and convicted, get on with it, you know. But this is a guy who has been held unjustly,” Nwoko said.

He added, “By the time you do these two things, I am almost certain that peace will return to the South-East.”

APC Slams Peter Obi Over Comment Describing Yahoo Boys As ‘Geniuses’

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has strongly criticised the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, over his recent comment portraying Internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo boys,” as “geniuses” who only need proper redirection.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC described Obi’s remark as “morally reprehensible” and unbecoming of someone who once sought to lead Nigeria.

Oladejo said it was disappointing and alarming that a former state governor and presidential candidate could make statements that appear to trivialise criminal behaviour in a society already battling moral decay.

We are genuinely concerned about Obi’s moral compass, how can someone who constantly condemns corruption also glorify cybercrime?

Such contradictions reveal a dangerous moral confusion that has no place in leadership.”

The APC spokesman also accused Obi of seeking political relevance through controversial statements, describing his position as a “reckless attempt at attention-seeking,” Oladejo said.

Naija Stars Abroad: Osimhen on fire, forgotten Eagle stars as Lookman, Boniface extend goala drought

Victor Osimhen is unstoppable, and a forgotten Super Eagle is back! But the pressure mounts as Ademola Lookman and Victor Boniface’s goal drought continues in Europe.

While it was a quiet weekend across board for Nigerian players abroad, Super Eagles main man Victor Osimhen and a forgotten star kept the fire burning with goals in Europe.

After his one-man show for Galatasaray in the Champions League in mid-week, Nigeria’s Osimhen was in superb form for the Lions as he showed signs that he seems to have rediscovered his scoring again.

The 26-year-old scored the all-important equaliser as Galatasaray came from behind to beat their hosts Goztepe 3-1 on Sunday.

Osimhen’s goal was his third in two matches for Gala in a matter of days, taking his tally to six in all competitions.

He was the only Nigerian who found the net in Turkey, with in-form Paul Onuachu stopped from adding to his impressive seven goals this season for Trabzonspor.
