Tinubu Government Rejects Trump’s Designation Of Nigeria As ‘Country Of Particular Concern’

The President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government has dismissed remarks by United States President, Donald Trump, alleging widespread killings of Christians in Nigeria and designating the country a “Country of Particular Concern.”

In a statement issued on Saturday morning by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the government described the allegations as inaccurate and unreflective of the reality on the ground.“

The Federal Government of Nigeria notes the recent remarks by US President Donald Trump alleging large-scale killings of Christians in Nigeria and calling for the country’s designation as a ‘Country of Particular Concern,’” the statement read.

“These claims do not reflect the situation on the ground.

Nigerians of all faiths have long lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully,” the ministry stated.

Nigerian Resident Doctors Begin Indefinite Strike, Accuse Tinubu Government Of Inaction

Resident doctors across Nigeria have commenced an indefinite strike over what they described as the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government’s repeated failure to honour agreements reached with them after several rounds of negotiation.

The President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr Mohammad Suleiman, announced the strike in a statement issued on Saturday through the association’s official account.

He said the decision followed the expiration of a 30-day ultimatum earlier given to the government.

According to him,

“the strike has become inevitable following the repeated failure of the Federal Government of Nigeria to honour its promises and implement the agreements reached with us after several rounds of dialogue, appeals and ultimatums.”

Council Election: Angry Residents Set Niger Electoral Commission Office Ablaze Over Missing Sheets

Aggrieved residents of Magama Ward in Nasko Local Government Area, Niger State, have set the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) office on fire following reports that official result sheets were missing from materials delivered for the forthcoming local government election.

Eyewitnesses said electoral officials brought ballot papers to the area but allegedly failed to include the official result sheets, which triggered outrage among the residents, who accused officials of attempting to manipulate the election process.

The protest quickly turned violent, with the electoral office engulfed in flames.

The full extent of the damage has yet to be determined, but several sensitive electoral materials were reportedly destroyed.

Dangote Refinery promises steady fuel supply, says ouput exceeds demand

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has pledged a steady supply of petrol and diesel nationwide during the upcoming festive period, as its daily output now exceeds Nigeria’s consumption capacity.

The Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Anthony Chiejina, said in a statement made available to the PUNCH Online on Saturday, that the refinery currently dispenses over 45 million litres of petrol and 25 million litres of diesel daily.

He stated, “Our production capacity surpasses national demand.

“We are collaborating with regulators and distributors to ensure efficient delivery across the country. Dangote remains committed to powering Nigeria.”

Ayra Starr dresses up as Rema for Halloween

Mavin Records star, Ayra Starr, has set social media buzzing after dressing up as her label mate, Rema, for Halloween.

The singer recreated Rema’s signature look, red cap turned sideways, dark shades, and baggy pants, while playfully imitating his gestures and mannerisms in a viral video.

While many hailed Ayra Starr’s creativity and sense of humour, others took the opportunity to tease her over the perceived closeness she shares with Rema.

Some fans joked that she might be “forcing a relationship” that doesn’t exist.

One comment read, “This relationship wey she dey force, very soon Rema go tell her the truth.”

Dollar to Naira exchange rate today, November 1, 2025

The naira strengthened on Saturday, November 1, 2025, closing at ₦1,421.73 per US dollar on the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) — the electronic/official FX window — while parallel-market (black-market) dealers in Lagos quoted the dollar roughly between ₦1,450 (buy) and ₦1,469 (sell).

Data from Nigeria’s primary FX trading windows showed continued appreciation of the naira on the official market, with NFEM/EFEMS participants recording a closing rate of ₦1,421.73 on November 1 — an advance from late-October levels.

The move extends a recent rally that market outlets attribute to stronger foreign exchange inflows and central bank interventions aimed at stabilising the market.

Meanwhile, the parallel market remained looser and more dispersed, with multiple rate trackers reporting sellers (aboki) offering dollars around ₦1,460–₦1,469 and some aggregators showing buying prices near ₦1,445–₦1,450.

The charge added that the post “had caused injury to the reputation of the Church priest Rev. Fr. Chudy P. S. Aguinam and the members and exposed them to hatred, contempt and ridicule before the right-thinking members of the public.

When questioned about his satisfaction with Chelle’s performance so far, Eguavoen offered a firm and direct endorsement.

The former Super Eagles and KAA Gent defender emphasised the need for unified support behind the new coach, warning against distractions that could derail the team’s progress.
