Thank God for Dangote refinery, Ojulari tells Nigerians

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mr Bayo Ojulari, has praised the Dangote Petroleum Refinery as a critical stabiliser of Nigeria’s energy system, amid the state-owned oil company’s challenges in operating its government-owned refineries and meeting domestic fuel demand.

Ojulari, who spoke during a fireside chat titled“Securing Nigeria’s Energy Future” at the Nigeria International Energy Summit 2026 on Wednesday in Abuja, said the existence of a functional local refinery provided NNPC with much-needed “breathing space” amid intense pressure to maintain fuel supply continuity.

He said the Dangote Refinery has been a major relief for Nigeria’s fuel supply, urging Nigerians to appreciate its impact regardless of personal views about its owner, noting that the plant’s operations had drawn applause from participants at the event.

“Thank God for Dangote Refinery.

Thank God. Whether you love Dangote, you hate him, say whatever you want to say, Nigerians should thank God for Dangote,” Ojulari said, drawing applause from the audience.

Convention showdown: PDP govs resist Wike bloc’s move to dismantle committees

The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Tuesday as governors elected on the party’s platform rejected moves by an Nyesom Wike-backed caretaker committee to reschedule the party’s national convention and dissolve key zonal structures, arguing that the faction lacked the constitutional authority to take such decisions.

The caretaker committee, backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, had rescheduled the party’s national convention, originally slated for March 28, to March 29 and 30.

The Caretaker Committee Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, announced this in Abuja on Tuesday, after its National Working Committee meeting, which dissolved the Southwest, North-West, and Plateau zonal committees.

In response, PDP Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and others who are backing the Tanimu Turaki (SAN)-led National Working Committee, stated that the Wike group lacks the authority to organise a convention or dissolve zonal committees

Families of two victims killed during violent clashes over control of local government areas in Osun State have called for the immediate prosecution of five suspects recently arrested by the police.

The victims, Segun Oloyede and Taiwo Oyebamiji, were allegedly shot dead in Iragbiji on February 17, 2025, as violence erupted during a faceoff involving chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress and members of the Peoples Democratic Party.

FG’ll stabilise food prices, agric inputs – Minister

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has pledged to work hard towards ensuring that prices of Agricultural inputs are stabilised in the country, the same way foodstuff prices were stabilised following efforts by the President Bola Tinubu’s administration to tackle hunger in Nigeria.

The Minister made the pledge on Wednesday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, while flagging off the distribution of 46 tricycles, nine weight scales, three destoners, seven petrol engines, seven small-scale rice mills, two steam parboilers, among other agricultural inputs to farmers’ groups drawn from across the state.

Senate didn’t reject electronic transmission of results — Akpabio

The Senate has dismissed reports claiming that it rejected the electronic transmission of election results during consideration of the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill.

The clarification came from Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, shortly after the upper chamber passed the bill following a marathon session that lasted about four and a half hours.

Consideration of the contentious amendment to Clause 60, Subsection 3, of the bill began at about 2pm and stretched until 6.26pm, fuelling speculation online that lawmakers had voted against mandatory electronic transmission of results.

However, news made the rounds that the Senate shot down a proposal that would have compelled presiding officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission to transmit results electronically from each polling unit to the INEC Result Viewing (IREV) portal in real time, after signing and stamping the prescribed result forms.
