Heavy Security In Kuje As Sowore Faces Arraignment Over #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest
Heavy security presence has been observed in Kuje, Abuja, as the Nigeria Police mounted at least five checkpoints leading to the court where human rights activist and SaharaReporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, is expected to be arraigned.
It was observed that an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was also stationed at a strategic location around the area on Friday morning.
The heightened security measures come ahead of Sowore’s court appearance following his arrest on Thursday.
Land ownership: Oyo govt tackles Federal Govt
The government of Oyo State on Thursday rebutted claims by the Federal Government about the ownership of some choice properties located within the state, declaring that the said properties had been revoked and taken over by the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Williams Akin-Funlayo, who made the position known at a press conference on Thursday, said that the state government reserves the right to repossess any unutilised land within its borders.
Adding that the Federal Government should either develop any landed property owned by it within the state or risk forfeiture.
He said that the properties being claimed by the Federal Government had since been revoked by the state government; therefore, they were no longer owned by the federal authorities.

The Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has condemned the arrest of human rights activist, journalist, and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, by security operatives allegedly acting on the orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by the Union’s Convener, Olusola Badero, through its Home Director, Princess Balogun, the group accused the Tinubu-led administration of waging a relentless war against journalists, activists, and opposition voices in Nigeria.
The Union described the arrest of Sowore as an “embarrassment to democracy and an assault on freedom of expression,” noting that Yoruba people across the world are ashamed of what they called “a dangerous precedent being set by one of their own.

Kanu’s trial stalled over claim of inability to access case file
The detained self acclaimed leader of the proscribed separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu failed to open his defence on Friday in his ongoing terrorism trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kanu said he could not open his defence because he has not been handed the case file to familiarise himself with its contents to enable him adequately prepare for his defence.
Following his inability to commence his defence on Thursday after he fired his team of lawyers led by former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Kanu Agabi, Kanu prayed the court to grant him a short adjournment till the next day.

Afrobeats singer Yemi Alade has opened up about her struggle with depression, triggered by a three-year period of misidentifying her age.
In her interview with Chude Jideonwo, she recounted how she repeatedly told people she was 22, only to realise at 25 that she had been mistaken, leading to a few days of depression as her mind grappled with the reality.
According to Alade, the revelation was a mental challenge and struggled to come to terms with it.She said:
“There was a time someone asked me my age, and I kept saying for three years I was 22.
Then I realised I was 25 years old. I took out my phone and I did the mathematics. I was depressed for a few days.
My mind wasn’t taken into process.“It was mental, for three years I didn’t know my right age”.

NBTE warns against illegal award of ND, HND certificates
The National Board for Technical Education has cautioned all professional and examination bodies in Nigeria to desist from the illegal conduct and award of National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday in Kaduna by the Executive Secretary (ES) of NBTE, Prof. Idris Bugaje, through the board’s Head, Media and Publicity, Mrs Fatima Abubakar.
She said Bugaje had issued a circular, expressing concern over the activities of certain professional and examination bodies purporting to design, conduct, and award ND and HND certificates in various disciplines
He described such actions as illegal and a violation of the NBTE’s establishing Act.
