The Edo State Government has pledged to take full responsibility for the medical treatment of a 22-year-old girl left paralyzed after being crushed by an unlicensed Dangote Group truck driver.
According to activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), the victim has been confined to a hospital bed for 11 months, battling paralysis and severe respiratory complications.
A breathing tube was inserted in her throat after she lost the ability to breathe through her nose.
VDM revealed that the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, led a delegation to visit the young woman.
During the visit, the government promised to clear all accumulated hospital bills and collaborate with doctors to secure advanced medical treatment.
The announcement brought relief to the victim’s family, who had been overwhelmed by the financial and emotional burden of her care.
While many welcomed the government’s intervention, the incident has reignited conversations about road safety, corporate accountability, and justice for victims of reckless driving in Nigeria.
Social commentators argue that beyond financial relief, the Dangote Group must also face scrutiny and responsibility for allegedly deploying unlicensed drivers who endanger lives daily on Nigerian roads.
In his statement, VDM prayed for the young woman’s healing, saying:
“She is completely paralyzed… I pray God restores all.”
As the Edo State Government takes on her case, Nigerians are watching to see if this intervention will bring lasting justice and systemic reform or end as another isolated gesture.
