Peller demands EFCC release VeryDarkMan within 24 hours, citing humanitarian concerns and public outcry over activist’s detention.
On May 4, 2025, popular Nigerian TikTok influencer Peller issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other involved parties, demanding the immediate release of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan.
Police apprehended the activist together with an unnamed companion outside GTBank in Abuja on May 2, 2025 before releasing the companion afterward.
Through his social media video Peller demonstrated great concern about VeryDarkMan’s detention as he highlighted both the societal impact of the activist and the damage that would occur to his dependents if his detention extended further.
The individual who arrested VeryDarkMan has one day to free the activist or face consequences he announced. Barring this individual prevents him from providing help to the people in need.
The methods used to detain VeryDarkMan have created massive public discontent among citizens.
Officials refused family food deliveries stating that no visitors were permitted while reports show VeryDarkMan being moved to an unknown place.
Peter Obi who is running for president in 2023 as the Labour Party candidate described the arrest method as a kidnapping act while denouncing the process for its lack of transparency and civil behavior.
Peaceful arrests will protect both public confidence in the police and the economy of the nation according to his warning.
The Financial Crimes Commission has not yet acknowledged the arrest of VeryDarkMan or specified any charges against him.
The public alongside legal representatives insist on receiving both transparency and proper court procedures during the ongoing case handling.
Social media platforms and public forums contain calls for accountability combined with demands for individual rights protection as the situation continues to be tense.
