Nigerian music icon Wizkid (Ayodeji Balogun) has made history as the first African artist to surpass 9 billion streams on Spotify across all his featured credits.
Leading the charge is his global smash collaboration “One Dance” with Drake and Kyla, which alone has amassed around 3.7 billion streams, ranking among Spotify’s most-streamed tracks ever and earning a Guinness World Record for crossing 1 billion.
As a lead artist, Wizkid’s song “Essence”, featuring Tems, has also resonated powerfully—surpassing 300 million streams and further solidifying his global influence
This achievement underscores Wizkid’s role in propelling Afrobeats onto the world stage, tapping into the genre’s global boom driven by streaming platforms and cultural crossover
While Wizkid becomes the first from the continent to hit this milestone, global pop icon Taylor Swift still leads Spotify’s overall charts, with approximately 1.5 billion streams
