But Fluminense responded six minutes later in the break, through Bruno Henrique and Danilo, taking control completely.
The game turned a corner when the substitute Nicolas Jackson, who had been on the field only four minutes, was given a straight red card after making a reckless challenge on Ayrton Lucas.
His sacking rattled Chelsea and added to their miseries. Wallace Yan scored late to secure a win to Flamengo.
The Flamengo supporters went wild, even making fun of Cole Palmer on social media by posting a deleted wording of “Too hot for Cold Palmer”.
Discipline problems and the lack of tactical acumen brought down the performance of Chelsea .
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca accepted the defeat well-deserved.
The defeat causes much concern before the upcoming season of the Premier League with regard to defensive discipline and depth of the squad
