Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Mourn the Passing of Chief Ayo Adebanjo

The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) deeply mourns the passing of Chief Ayo Adebanjo because of his unyielding dedication to integrity alongside justice and true federalism within Nigeria.

Chief Ayo Adebanjo passed away after serving as a leader of Afenifere co-founder of SMBLF and Deputy National Leader until his last breath.

Examples of prominent figures released a joint statement which included Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark alongside Ohanaeze President General Sen. Azuta-Nbata PANDEF President General Ambassador (Dr.) Godknows Igali and President of the Middle Belt Forum Dr. Pogu Bitrus and Coordinator Barr. John Nnia Nwodo.

According to John Nnia Nwodo together with other figures in Nigerian politics and culture, the passing of Chief Adebanjo marks the final phase of a historic era for socio-cultural and political life in Nigeria.

The Southern Nigerian and Middle Belt citizens express deep sorrow through this statement to both his family members and the Yoruba people as well as the country at large. Throughout his life, Chief Adebanjo directed the world with moral excellence while promoting justice alongside steadfast democratic values.

The nation honoured Chief Adebanjo as its nationalist figure because he implemented constant advocacy for national advancement while championing equality together with fair governance.

He clearly distinguished himself from other peers who altered their opinions because he maintained his belief that Nigeria could achieve prosperity through genuine federalism with equitable treatment for every ethnic group. His progressive beliefs stayed strong since he first learned from Chief Obafemi Awolowo until all phases of Nigerian politics.

His bravery became clear when he consistently backed the Southeastern presidential candidacy for the 2023 elections. The Yoruba candidate did not deter him because he believed the Igbo should have a chance to govern Nigeria.

His determination to maintain this position about the Southeast presidency even when facing extensive pressure made him an unselfish leader who placed countrywide unity above ethnic affiliation.

From the start of his life until the end Chief Adebanjo devoted himself to political activism while providing guidance to numerous individuals as their mentor and leader.

The SMBLF forum adopted its positions on national matters substantially through the significant guidance that Chief Adebanjo provided during its meetings. People will feel his departure deeply since his speaking voice maintained provenance through logic and audacity and forward-looking vision” the statement expressed.

The nation experienced a great loss when Chief Ayo Adebanjo departed this life. Through his unrelenting commitment to justice and true federalism and equity, he created permanent milestones for the history of the nation. The legacy of the departed leader directs future generations who aim to establish a just and equitable society.
