VeryDarkMan, a Nigerian social media activist, was arrested by EFCC operatives outside a GTBank branch in Abuja after raising concerns about unauthorized debits from his mother’s account.
The incident occurred on May 2, 2025, when Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), visited the bank to address the issue.
A video circulating online captures moments before the arrest, showing VDM outside the bank premises.
According to his legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, VDM was detained by officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) shortly after leaving the bank.
Adeyanju alleges that VDM was locked inside the bank’s exit door for over five minutes, facilitating the arrest by EFCC operatives.
The EFCC has confirmed receiving petitions against VDM but has not disclosed specific details regarding the allegations.
Spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated, “We have some petitions against him that we are working on. He has some issues with us.”
VDM’s arrest has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users expressing concern over the circumstances of his detention.
Critics argue that the arrest may be an attempt to silence a vocal critic of financial institutions.
Legal representatives are reportedly working to secure his release and have indicated plans to take legal action against GTBank for their alleged role in the incident.
As of now, VDM remains in EFCC custody, and further details about the case are awaited.
