Introduction

The Geometric Integrated Power Project was built to produce and supply uninterrupted power to households across 9 local governments in the state.

Alex Otti, the governor of the state commissioned the project on the 27th of February, 2024

A huge win for Aba, the Industrial Hub of the South-East region as it houses the mouth-opening power plant. The power plant is situated in the Osisioma Industrial Hub of Aba.

However, the project was in the works for 20 years due to many challenges and disruptions in the state government per the new election cycle.

Alex Otti said the million-dollar project which includes the building of a 27km natural gas pipeline can produce and distribute 188 Mega-watts of electricity.

The Governor said the project was birthed under the administration of Orji Uzo Kalu in 2004, 2 decades ago. The completion is the hard work, visionary leadership, and commitment of the Ex., Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji, and his team at Geometric Power Limited.

He also went on to express gratitude to the federal government, the project financial partners, and the people of the state for their effective collaboration.

Furthermore, the Governor is immensely proud and happy that he is part of the event as he has a personal connection with the project.

Below Are The Following Things You Need To know About Abia Geometric Power plant;

The Great Impact

The size of the areas the Geometric Power Plant would cover is really a historic feet as It would cover the Aba ring-fenced area. In a population of 4,143,200. 45% of of the population would be affected by this monumental plant.

In addition, the power plant would power 270,720 households across the 9 local governments in the state, generating 135,360,000 kWh of electricity per month.

Its Gas Supply

The power plant which couldn’t kick off years back due to lack of gas would now be supplied with uninterrupted natural gas. To avoid that rising again, the company laid a 27km pipeline of natural gas with the collaboration of NNPC.

It Depends On PPAs (Power Purchase Agreement)

However, the availability and distribution of the power are dependent on the intricacies in agreements between Geometric and Aba Power Limited (APLE). As they would tend to ensure power gets to the industries and residents in the local governments.

Previously Owned Electricity Debt And Tariff

Previously owned electricity bills and tariffs would be attended to and this may pose a challenge distributing power to the debtors. The Discos would come up with a cost reflective of the country’s situation and that also align with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission ( NERC)
