White Afrikaners refugees plan by the U.S. faces backlash from South Africa, citing factual inaccuracies and political motives.

White Afrikaners refugees resettlement plan announced by the U.S. has drawn sharp criticism from the South African government.

President Donald Trump’s executive order to grant refugee status to 54 white Afrikaners, citing racial persecution, has been labeled as “misinformed” and “politically motivated” by Pretoria.

South Africa’s International Relations Minister, Ronald Lamola, expressed deep concern over the U.S. decision.

He stated that it lacks factual accuracy and fails to recognize the country’s complex history of colonialism and apartheid.

He emphasized that Afrikaners remain among the most economically privileged groups in South Africa, making the refugee designation questionable.

The executive order not only offers sanctuary to these individuals but also cuts financial aid to South Africa, including significant contributions to its HIV program.

This move has been perceived as a punitive measure against the country’s land reform policies.

This aims to address historical injustices by redistributing land to Black South Africans.
