American rapper Nicki Minaj has revealed the reasons behind her recent statements on the challenges faced by Christians in Nigeria.

She addressed the issue during a surprise appearance at America

Fest on Sunday, responding to questions from attendees, including Erika Kirk, widow of Charlie Kirk.

The rapper highlighted her ties to Nigeria as a major factor in her advocacy. She explained,

“Nigeria is a place I’ve always loved. Someone very dear to me, my pastor, is Nigerian, and I have lots of Nigerian barbs.”

Minaj expressed deep concern over reports of kidnappings and attacks on people while attending church, saying,

“So hearing that people are being kidnapped while they’re in church, people are being killed, brutalised, all because of their religion, that should spark outrage.”

She also addressed the broader issue of religious freedom worldwide, urging people not to take their ability to worship for granted.

She added,

“We’re not backing down anymore. We are not going to be silenced by the bullies anymore. We will speak up for Christians wherever they are in this world.”

Minaj, who previously shared a post by former US President Donald Trump highlighting threats to Christianity in Nigeria, further stressed that protecting religious freedom depends on strong leadership.

At the event, she also praised leaders she believes understand ordinary citizens’ struggles.

Her comments come amid ongoing debate, with the Nigerian government maintaining that insecurity affects all citizens equally and is not a targeted campaign against any faith
