Shocking Cut Today: Jaire Alexander is out in Green Bay’s budget move. See how cap space and injuries sealed his fate.

Shocking Cut Today shocked Packers’ fans Monday as Green Bay released two‑time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander.

The 28‑year‑old, once a defensive pillar, missed most of the last two seasons due to knee and shoulder injuries. He hadn’t played since mid‑November 2024, underwent season‑ending knee surgery, and was suspended once in 2024.

After signing a four‑year extension worth up to $84 million in 2022, Alexander and the Packers explored trade and contract‑cut options. But he refused a pay cut and no trade partner emerged.

By releasing him post–June 1, Green Bay frees $17 million in 2025 cap space and $27 million in 2026. They will absorb $7.5 million in dead money this year and $9.5 million next year.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst admitted the move was hard given Alexander’s impact when healthy, but his unreliability drove the decision.
