Ghanaian gospel musician Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko has made a public appeal to former President John Dramani Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama, and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing severe financial distress.

In an emotional statement, the artist revealed he is struggling to meet basic needs, including food and care for his children.

Nyarko attributed his current difficulties to his open support for the NDC ahead of Ghana’s 2024 general elections. He said he composed and released a campaign song for the party but believes the gesture has adversely impacted his career — particularly in the Ashanti Region, a stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The gospel singer’s plea has sparked public debate, highlighting the personal risks artists may face when aligning with political movements in Ghana’s highly polarized landscape.
