A fresh debate about marriage expectations has emerged online after former presidential aide Reno Omokri shared advice for men on choosing a life partner.

Writing on X, Omokri urged men to carefully consider the kind of woman they marry, warning against relationships built on financial dependence rather than partnership.

In his post, Omokri wrote: “Dear men, Marry a woman who wants a husband and life partner.”

He cautioned against marrying a woman who views her husband primarily as a financier for a luxurious lifestyle, family responsibilities, and endless future demands.

According to him, marriage should focus on mutual contribution and shared growth rather than one partner solely providing financial support.

Omokri added: “You need a contributor in your life, not someone whose only ambition after marriage is to be a distributor of your wealth, which she did not contribute to building.

That’s the difference between marrying a buddy and wedding a burden.”

His post quickly drew attention, sparking varied reactions online.

Some users agreed with his advice, seeing it as timely guidance for young men preparing for marriage.

Emeka commented: “Young men in search for wife. This is solid advice. Adhering to it will not fail you. Marriage is one of the most important decision to make. Choose wisely.”

Others offered different perspectives.

Nell wrote: “Exactlyl, but what if the real problem isn’t her spending, it’s expecting men to act like walking banks? Wealth isn’t love, ambition shared is what keeps marriage alive.”

Mosafejo pointed out that financial capacity also plays a role: “Normally your advice is the true best.

But a man who knows he is or can be making 100m Naira a month can be giving 7m to a woman/her family, no distribution.
