Entrepreneurship is not about youth age, not about tech coding. It is about the 39.65 million Nigerian businesses that hustle daily.
Nigeria does not have a job problem; we have an enterprise problem. Everyone is hustling, market woman, vulcanizer, tailor, POS operator, barber. But hustle is not enterprise. Enterprise has structure: books, CAC registration, business account, tax clearance, growth plan.
A better Nigeria cannot be built on hustle alone. It must be built on enterprise.
Better Nigeria Enterprise Means:
- From Hustle to Structured Business: Mama Tolu has sold garri for 10 years but has no CAC certificate, no business account, no record. Help her register in 1 day with her phone, open a free SME account, teach simple bookkeeping — sales, profit, loss. Structure is wealth.
- Market Access, Not Only Money: Government shares loans that people consume. Better to give market: Buy Nigerian for school uniforms, hospital beds, army boots from Aba, Kano, Onitsha. One LGA, One Product. Create e-commerce hubs to sell to Lagos and to the diaspora.
- Kill Multiple Taxation: One shop, 12 different levies and council taxes. No business will grow. According to PwC MSME Survey 2024, 75% of MSMEs pay 1-5 taxes, but 13% pay 11 or more taxes per year. The new Tax Reform Act 2025 now prohibits cash collection and roadblocks and collapses 60+ overlapping levies into fewer than 10. We must implement: One single SME tax per year, pay online, get receipt, no harassment. Let business breathe.
- Failed Business, Not Failed Person: In Nigeria, if your business fails, you are labelled a thief. In a better Nigeria, we need a business school in every market — how to price, how to save, how to hire, how to fail and try again. No shame.
MSMEs contribute 46.32% of GDP and 87.9% of jobs (SMEDAN/NBS 2023). If we support 1 million MSMEs to grow from 1 staff to 5 staff, that is 4 million new jobs without government employing anyone.
Your Task Today: If you own a business, register it, open a separate account, write your sales today. If you do not own one, support one market woman, buy from her, teach her to keep records.
